What is the The Open Book Club?

The Open Book Club is a friendly group of people who meet to chat about a book they’ve all been reading. It’s a fun, relaxed way to discover new stories, share your thoughts, and connect with others who love books too.

How does The Open Book Club work?

Each month we’ll choose a new book. In our first meeting, we’ll chat about the first half (up to a set chapter), and in the second meeting, we’ll discuss the whole book and share our thoughts. It’s all about enjoying the story together at a comfortable pace!

How do we choose next month’s book?

At the first meeting of each month, everyone can suggest a book they'd like to read.
All the suggestions go into a hat (or bowl!), and we’ll pick one at random to be our next read. simple, fair, and full of surprises!

What types of books do you read?

We’re open to all types of fiction! From romance to fantasy, historical to mystery, we love exploring different genres and discovering new stories together. Everyone’s welcome to suggest their favourites!

Do I need to buy the book?

Not necessarily. You can borrow it from the library, read a digital copy, or listen to the audiobook, whatever works best for you.

What happen if I don't like the book we are reading?

That’s totally okay! You’re welcome to skip or not finish a book if it’s not your thing—there’s no pressure. We do encourage giving each book a chance, but the most important part is joining the conversation and enjoying the group!

Do I have to come to every meeting?

Not at all! Come when you can, there’s no obligation to attend every time.

Is the club suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Whether you’re a regular reader or just getting back into books, our club is a relaxed and welcoming space for everyone, no experience needed, just a love (or curiosity!) for stories.

Who can join The Open Book Club?

Anyone aged 18 and over is welcome! Whether you’re a seasoned reader or just looking to get back into books, we’d love to have you join us.

How much does The Open Book Club?

It’s totally free to join! We meet at Dugdale Arts Centre that has a lovely café inside, so while there’s no obligation, we encourage grabbing a drink or snack to support the venue if you can.
